In-Game Ads to Reach $2B by 2011

10 Apr

Emarketer is forecasting that over the next five years, videogame advertising will grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 23 percent, reaching some $2 billion by 2011 worldwide.. Advertising in games accounted for $692 million in 2006. I’m surprised, but pleased, at the low rate of in game advertising adoption by game designers. I wouldn’t be the first person to comment on the proliferation of advertising on just about any blank space available. I don’t play video games too often (except for a brief flirtation with WoW.) and I won’t say that I’d play even less if that orc has a Nike logo on its breastplate.  It would just be another example of the over-commercialization of every day life (or even Second Life).
